ssn2uin and uin2ssn
The SSN Coordinators would like to thank both the i-card Programs Office and the OBFS Business Information Systems unit for creating these applications.
The UIN to SSN conversion utility
The UIN2SSN application is designed to allow authorized University staff members to lookup individuals Social Security numbers (SSN) and digital photos given a University Identification Number (UIN). Because many of the University's existing computer systems require the Social Security number it is often necessary to obtain a SSN from a student or staff member before providing a given service. However Federal statues require that in most instances the University provide service to individuals that refuse to divulge their SSN. The SSN is highly confidential and it is frequently inappropriate to require an individual to recite or supply in any fashion his or her SSN. UIN2SSN allows University staff to request an individual's UIN and then use UIN2SSN with the supplied UIN to lookup the individual's SSN in a confidential and secure manner. It is within the University's rights to deny services to those refusing to provide their UIN.
The UIN2SSN application may also be used to authenticate an individual's identity in limited circumstances. If a person appears at a point of service without an acceptable form of identification, given his or her UIN a University staff member may view the digital i-card photo associated with that UIN for comparison to the person requesting service.
UIN2SSN is a highly secured application - access to UIN2SSN requires approval from the SSN coordinators. You must request access to the application using the following form - instructions on how to complete and submit the form is included.
